A $526,802 summary judgment was entered against two brothers, Obada Alashqar and Abdallah Alashqar, and the now-defunct Wichita, Kansas, car dealership, Adams Auto Sales & Repair, LLC that they ran.

Following consumer complaints and an investigation early last year, the Sedgwick County district attorney filed a lawsuit against the brothers and the dealership. During the lawsuit several additional complaints were received and ultimately the district attorney alleged over 40 violations including, failing to disclose safety recalls, failing to provide certificates of title, taking customer trade-in vehicles without paying for them, selling vehicles “as is”, and not having appropriate licensure.

After both defendants failed to participate in the lawsuit, and failed to appear in court on Sept. 6, the court granted the district attorney’s request for summary judgment. The judgment calls for the defendants to pay restitution to over 40 consumers for a total of more than $45,000; civil penalties for the 48 violations for a total of $480,000; and other costs and fees.
